This Into Reading First Grade Heart Words resource is designed to help students learn to sound out sight words with irregular letter-sound correspondences. The irregular part of a word can be permanently irregular or temporarily irregular. Permanently irregular words have a letter-sound correspondence that can’t be decoded, is unique to the word, or only appear in a few words. Temporarily irregular words have a letter-sound correspondence that hasn't yet been taught.
